2010 Willunga 100 Grenache

"Juicy, easygoing red fruit with that McLaren Vale ripeness really shining through. Slight bitterness on the finish, and warm but not incongruous alcohol. Drink 2013 to 2015. (RH)" 15.5 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages Wine: "This wine is lively and intense, displaying aromatics of strawberry, rhubarb, cherries and hints of vanilla bean and dried herbs. The palate demonstrates all the characters expected from a medium bodied Grenache: sandy, gritty tannin structure, lovely dryness on the finish coupled with balanced sweet strawberry compote fruit." "Grenache is Willunga 100's flagship grape. It works so well in McLaren Vale. We source our fruit from 50 year old vines, located on sandy soils which give the wine a great depth of flavour and a supple yet grainy tannin structure." - Winery Vinification: "A combination of open fermenters and stainless steel pump-over tanks were used. Warm to hot fermentation temperatures, combined with regular pump-overs and plunging ensured optimum extraction, while maintaining the delicate aromatics of the Grenache grape. Timely pressing, only using the best press fractions ensured good quality of flavour and the favourable drying, sandy tannin structure. The wine is bottled under screwcap to maintain freshness and ensure longevity." - Winery This was also rated 88 points by the International Wine Cellar and 87 points by Wine Spectator. [+]
