Zakara Raitt (b. 1991) is a South African artist based in Johannesburg. She has been an active participant in the local contemporary art scene while completing her BA Hons in Fine Art at the University of Witwatersrand in 2012. Raitt’s interventionist practice focuses on installation and sculpture, working predominantly with cardboard. She is particularly interested in the dynamics of urban space, gentrification and the artistic act of inserting work into the public domain. Raitt is involved in Play>Urban, an ongoing international project between Wits School of Art, Johannesburg, and Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Strasbourg. In 2011, she was selected for VANSA’s ArtConnect residency for young practitioners. She has also participated in performances with South African artists Donna Kukama, Bettina Malcomess and Ruth Sacks. Raitt is a part-time assistant at the Stevenson Gallery Johannesburg where she is working on Olafur Eliasson’s Little Sun project in the CBD. [+]
