In the Spring of 2011, Cherokee Red began as a collective of composers and multi- instrumentalists, each with a creatively unique voice and means of expression. Initially consisting of Andrew Sgarlat (drums/ guitar/ bass), Brittany Thomas (vox/ guitar/ drums), Charles Davis (guitar/ keys/ vox), Christiana Bartolini (vox/ percussion), and Dirk Dekker (guitar/ bass/ drums), the group began writing and rehearsing in the mountains outside of their home- town, Wilkes- Barre, located in scenic Northeast Pennsylvania. Tuned to the nature of the their surroundings, the culmination of each individual's efforts resulted in an organic, lush sound- scape that was immediately greeted with positive reception by artists, audiophiles, and the general public alike. Dubbed "eerie folk" and "dream pop" by listeners, Cherokee Red gained a fast and eager following, as the group performed regularly for crowds in Philadelphia, New York City, and the greater Scranton/ Wilkes- Barre area.
After much anticipation, Cherokee Red self- released their eponymous debut album in the Spring of 2013, recorded and mixed by band member Dirk Dekker. The album was met with critical praise, drawing comparisons to the likes of Rilo Kiley, Mazzy Star, Beach House, and Fleetwood Mac. While regularly touring in support of the record, multi- instrumentalist/ composer and friend Matt Rattigan was added to the line- up, and immediately began re- fueling the collective creative tank. Cherokee Red promptly followed- up their self- titled album in the Autumn of 2013 with an EP entitled "432", named for the A=432Hz frequency at which it was recorded and the group continues to use during performances. Also self- recorded by Dekker, and self- released by the group in proper DIY fashion, "432" once again brought Cherokee Red praise from critics, and has been cited as an inspirational piece amidst the A=432Hz movement.
2014 has found the band once again creating new material, inspired by their varied influences, circumstances, and the ever- changing world. Through social media and the world- wide- web, the group's music has reached far and beyond their local surroundings of the United States' east coast, and grown to be well- received by a diverse, global audience. Keep on the look- out for upcoming festival announcements, east- coast shows, and further information regarding future recordings and releases. Cherokee Red thanks you for listening!
