Darcie Kent Vineyards Petite Sirah Madden Ranch 2010

Hugging the wind-swept hillsides of the Altamont Pass up to 1,000 feet in elevation, the vineyard tended by Virginia and John Madden is one of the highest vineyards in the valley, and so steep that water runs off quickly and the vines struggle to survive and the resulting grapes are both complex and intense, with flavors big and bold. Because the incredible steepness of the hills, the soil in the vineyard is relatively shallow. The topography of the land also allows for multiple microclimates, allowing the Maddens to successfully grow multiple varieties. [+]
