Emile Rivera

I was born in 1984, in one of the coldest winters of last decades. People said that in this 22nd of January birds weren't able to stand up because of ice. I don't know if it's true but it's fine to believe in it ...it seems one of those "it was a cold and stormy winter" stories.
A country Italian child with a little bit of latin blood.

I grew up near Parma, between autumn fog and summer wet warm. I approached to music as a young boy with Bob Dylan, Nomadi, Queen, Jon Lennon, Paul Simon. "Music was my first love" sang John Miles. And music was my best love. Then came Neil Young, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Fabrizio de André, Cat Stevens, John Denver, Francesco de Gregori, Roberto Vecchioni, Francesco Guccini, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John. Started playng guitar at twelve and writing song a few years later.

My first band was called "Voci Proibite". We played social involved song with an easy listening Italian music. These were the High School times, years of dreams and junkies.
Years which made me the man I am.

I started my solo career at the end of 2005, supported by Davide Buzzi, Gabriele Anversa and some other musicians.
And in 2006 I signed with the indie label "Green Production". Three years of intensive work, three years of unfinished changings of music, lyrics and arrangements. Three years when I learned how to play guitar, how to write, how to sing. How to listen. I started a complete approach on American music. Mostly Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Calexico, R.E.M., Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash, Talking Heads.
Years which made me the musician I am.

There are so many other histories to tell. Writing books and theatre, travels in south and north America, feelings and lived life.
But now it’s time to listen, it’s time for music.

“Cobalt Ruins”, my first album, has been published by SFEM on september 2011. [+]
