Fiddlehead Cellars Sauvignon Blanc Gooseberry 2014

Fiddlehead Cellars was founded in 1989 by owner and winemaker, Kathy Joseph. The wines are crafted in a small winery in the Lompoc "Wine Ghetto" in California with fruit from the 96 acre sustainably farmed Fiddlestix Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills. Kathy retains about 15% of the vineyard's output for her own label, and sells the rest to several prestigious wineries. She also sources grapes from the 70 acre Alloro Vineyard located in the Chehalem district of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Soils at Fiddlestix Vineyard are well-draining Gazos and Botella clay loam with Monterey shale. Its 35 individual blocks are planted with three rootstocks and eight Pinot Noir clones Pommard 4 & 5, Dijon 113, 115, 667, 777, and Swan. The fiddle has become a contiguous theme for the winery, linking Kathy's own nom de plume, the "Head Fiddle, with "Fiddlefest, her annual event that celebrates the vines from that year's harvest. [+]
