The Franklin Times, based in Louisburg, NC, serves Franklin County northeast of Raleigh. It is the only newspaper published in the county and its content is focused on local government, local schools, the communities and the people who call this rapidly growing area home. Louisburg is about 27 miles from downtown Raleigh and 18 miles from Henderson to the northwest. The county has easy access via U.S. Highways 1 (now four lane) and U.S. 401 and to the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle areas, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and other parts of the metropolitan area, making this market a prime location for residential and commercial development. The Franklin Times has a paid circulation of about 7,700 and is published on Thursdays. The 145-year-old Times is a modern newspaper with color photographs in a modular layout. The Franklin Times is "the source" of local news and sports for county residents. The newspaper is normally printed in at least two sections with its award-winning local sports coverage beginning on the front of the second section.
