In early 2006, originally as the bluegrass/thrashgrass outfit Buffalo, Grant Watts & the Old Family are fast becoming rising stars in the oft-forgotten genre of outlaw country music.
Upon relocating to New Orleans after extensive travel throughout the U.S. and Europe after leaving his native rural North Carolina, Grant Watts began to search the local scene for like-minded musicians to fill the roster of what he believed to be one of the few traditional/outlaw country bands in New Orleans at that time.
Experimenting and performing with several aggregations of musicians, Watts met bassist Eric Burgess through a chance response to a classified ad for a vocalist for the blues-rock band Strange Roux.
After immediately hitting it off musically and personally, and explaining what he thought was a tragic lack of presence of Americana, roots, and country music in the city, it wasn't long before mutual friend "Cousin" Ollie Stevenson joined on drums, and The Old Family was officially born.
At times featuring talented session musicians on organ & slide guitar, both live and in-studio, the 3-man core of Grant Watts & the Old Family was concrete.
Upon a sold-out show at One Eyed Jacks with the Civil Wars in 2011, and a subsequent signing of the band to New Orleans-based Total Riot Records, Grant Watts & the Old Family stand to be a unique addition to the New Orleans music scene--even if they are only outlaws in the country panorama. [+]
