H. John Kao

In more than 20 years in practice, John Kao has advised on more than 100 deals involving Greater China-based clients in acquisitions and investments overseas and multinational companies, private equity firms, and venture capital firms in acquisitions and investments in Greater China. He has particularly deep experience advising clients in complex and sensitive transactions that have become difficult to resolve. In addition, John advises clients on the formation of private equity and venture capital funds and on a wide array of legal issues and corporate matters in Greater China.

John's representative transactions include: the bid to acquire one of the world’s largest construction machinery manufacturing companies, a NYSE-listed company’s sale of controlling assets to its former Chinese joint venture partner in the culmination of an 18-month legal battle, a leading independent semiconductor services company’s acquisition of its rival, a major Chinese power generation company's acquisition of 50 percent of the equity in an international power company, and the proposed acquisition by a Chinese state-owned enterprise of a major U.S. bus manufacturer.
