Hugues Vallette Viallard

Hugues Vallette Viallard is a partner in the Paris and Brussels offices of Latham & Watkins. He practices EU and French antitrust and competition law and has a strong expertise in compliance issues and investigations, in particular fraud, bribery and white collar crimes.

Mr. Vallette Viallard advises clients on behavioral matters under Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and, in particular, assists them with global cartels. He has represented clients in numerous cartel investigations (including leniency/immunity applications at EU and national levels) and related litigation matters. He represents clients in litigation matters before the EU and French antitrust authorities and courts.

On the transactional side, he is regularly involved in merger control proceedings at EU and national levels and coordinates multijurisdictional merger filings for global transactions.

Mr. Vallette Viallard also advises on matters relating to compliance, due diligence, fraud, corporate corruption, bribery, trade with sanctioned countries and trade issues. He has strong experience in managing corporate investigations in Europe, Africa and Asia to help international businesses respond to global investigations initiated by government agencies, in particular major agencies responsible for export controls, economic sanctions laws and regulations (e.g., US DOJ, SEC, OFAC). He has assisted clients in investigations issues under the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and related US and European anti-corruption laws such as the UK Bribery Act.

Mr. Vallette Viallard has particular expertise in advising clients active in oil and gas, retail and information technology sectors.

Mr. Vallette Viallard is among the founding members of the French-based Cercle de la Compliance association. He is a frequent speaker and author of articles on competition law, compliance issues and investigations.
