I enjoy fun and surprising sounds, and their unusual placement. Indie Pop vocals, with piano and guitar, plus moody steel and fiddle mixed in blend genre temperaments. 'Origami' is probably the best example of that description, and then maybe 'Hand Me Down'.
I lean to the rock and blues side of notes and style in 'Can't Lose' and 'I Won't Wait'.
My 2014 newly released CD, Manna, was produced by In Sync Music's Rick Hirsch, who wrote Country Strong's theme song, 'Keep On Smilin', and Bonnie Raitt's cover, Papa Come Quick. He appears frequently on guitar. We were recently featured as the 10 o'clock hour interview on Radio Avalon with 92ZEW's Catt Sirten. No'Ala magazine selected track 1, 'Hand Me Down' for their compilation CD. To promote my new album, Manna, following it's recent release, I'm traveling with 2-5 members throughout the Gulf Coast, North Alabama and surrounding regions.
The Basement was suggested to me by my friend Amy McCarley and another friend Andrew Sovine as an appropriate venue for my style.
Bassist Abe Becker and myself also have a jazz sextet with trumpet, bass and percussion. Abe has two other Birmingham groups he arranges string parts and top 40 charts for. I stick to mostly originals and enjoy that we can quiet down to a space intimate enough for double bass and un-mic-ed vocal with Melody Gardot or Madeline Peyroux covers. I favor artists like Feist, Fiona Apple, my friend Rebecca Roubion, Katie Herzig, and Kate Nash. I also can harden it up for more rock/alt county numbers. [+]
