James P. Karen

Jim Karen is a trial lawyer whose practice emphasizes complex corporate and commercial litigation and class actions. He has served as national coordinating counsel in nationwide multidistrict litigation and has tried many cases throughout the United States.

Jim has handled a variety of disputes for major corporations, including Airlines Reporting Corporation, Bridgestone/Firestone, Century Aluminum, EDS, Expedia, Frito-Lay, General Electric, Hotels.com, Hotwire, IBM, KFC, PepsiCo, Pizza Hut, Stanley Works, Texas Instruments, Trammell Crow Company, USAA, Xerox, The Wendy's Company, and Yum! Brands. These disputes have involved corporate governance, technology outsourcing, antitrust, securities, real estate, banking, regulatory, toxic tort, insurance coverage, construction, trademark and intellectual property, and other issues. Many of these disputes have been class actions. Jim has served as lead counsel for Expedia in more than 75 lawsuits and administrative actions around the country relating to the online travel industry's "merchant model." In addition, he recently secured a judgment of $57.5 million, following a three-week arbitration, for claims relating to the acquisition of a business. The award was affirmed by the Federal District Court and then promptly paid in full. [1]
