John Majoras has tried a full range of commercial disputes in state and federal courts throughout the country. Most recently, he has focused on antitrust matters, including trying back-to-back merger cases in the second half of 2015. He led the successful defense of STERIS Corporation's acquisition of Synergy Health Plc against a challenge from the FTC in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He then led Electrolux Corporation's trial defense of the DOJ's challenge to the proposed acquisition of General Electric's appliance business. Previously, John headed up American Airlines' defense of its merger with US Airways, which was successfully resolved just short of trial.Beyond the merger cases, John has won multiple jury trials, including a large class action on behalf of Sanofi-Aventis in the Southern District of New York. He frequently advises clients on responding to international cartel investigations and defending the class action litigation that typically follows. Clients in the pharmaceutical, credit card, paper, packaged ice, marine hose, satellite radio, auto parts, waste hauling, and other industries have relied on John to defend and try their antitrust cases. He co-leads the Firm's Business & Tort Litigation Practice and coordinates Jones Day's competition law litigation practice worldwide.
