John Rankin

Trained classically for over 20 years, John began his musical journey studying violin at Marylhurst College. At age 16, he taught himself to play guitar and fell in love with blending different genres of music.

In 2012, he began performing in public, and won the WestCoast Songwriter Best Performance of the Year (Portland Chapter). Since then, he has played over 150 shows at some of the most elite clubs and venues the NW has to offer.

In 2015, he was chosen and mentored by John Legend, as one of five artists (AXE's White Label Collective), to open for John at SXSW.

This year, he will release two highly-anticipated albums: one acoustic (showcasing his guitar and voice) - release date TBA soon; and the other, an album written with the blended purpose of licensing and revealing his love of electronic music, called Parts of Me (on which he performed violin, guitar, piano, ukulele, bass, and synths), all of which he recorded in his home studio.

He also plays in a rock, soul, funk trio (formerly Commonly Courteous) with Jackson Conrad and Shane Wolfe. [+]
