Jörn Kowalewski

Dr. Jörn Kowalewski is a partner in the German Restructuring, Insolvency & Workouts Practice. He focuses on advising in corporate restructurings — outside and inside of insolvency proceedings — as well as in the acquisition of companies and of distressed debt.

Mr. Kowalewski focuses his practice on advising distressed investors, lenders, lender groups and steering committees as well as the debtors in:

  • Out-of-court (financial and operational) restructurings
  • Acquisition of distressed companies and corporate groups
  • Representation in bankruptcy proceedings and in the context of insolvency plan negotiations

JUVE 2015/2016 has recognized Mr. Kowalewski as a “recommended” lawyer for Restructuring and Insolvency. In addition clients praised his “excellent work on the opposite side” and in JUVE 2013/14 he is hailed as “good and pragmatic” by competitors.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Kowalewski ran a mid-sized international trading company for more than five years. Among others, Mr. Kowalewski is a member of the Association for Restructuring TMA Germany (Gesellschaft für Restrukturierung TMA Deutschland e.V.), the Insolvency and Restructuring Working Group of the German Lawyers’ Association and the Association of Friends of the Hamburg Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Verein der Freunde des Hamburger Max-Planck-Instituts für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht).
