Karim Mahmud

Karim Mahmud is an energy lawyer with more than 20 years of experience. He works primarily in the oil and gas, power, and mining sectors and in related infrastructure construction and development. Karim has led multidisciplinary teams in the structuring, negotiation, and implementation of major energy projects ranging from the creation of joint ventures for upstream oil and gas projects to complex LNG projects. He has worked in more than 40 countries and has acted for project developers and sponsors (including state oil companies) as well as governments, international multilateral agencies, and financial institutions.

Karim has recently advised a major Asian state oil and gas company on a multibillion dollar bid for significant upstream assets (producing fields and related processing and transportation infrastructure) in the U.K. and Norway North Sea. He also acted for a major European utility on an upstream investment in two Ukrainian concessions and a related joint venture with a major oil and gas company valued at more than $4 billion. He has recently advised on projects in Nigeria, Angola, Yemen, Kurdistan, Pakistan, Qatar, and Canada. [1]
