Kate Rykken is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department. Ms. Rykken’s practice focuses on internal investigations and complex commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on compliance, securities law and white collar matters.
Ms. Rykken has represented companies and individual officers and directors in connection with internal investigations, trials and government investigations in a wide range of industries including:
- Accounting and Professional Entities
- Auto Parts Manufacturing and Distribution
- Defense Contracting
- Healthcare, Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals
Ms. Rykken has led investigations, drafted corporate compliance policies and settlement agreements, authored motions, taken and defended depositions, managed discovery in large-scale and multi-jurisdictional matters, worked with expert witnesses, and prepared for and assisted at trial.
Ms. Rykken is also significantly involved with the firm’s pro bono practice. She is a recipient of Latham’s Pro Bono Star award. Most recently, she has worked to obtain relief for victims of human trafficking and hold accountable property owners for non-habitable conditions.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rykken served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Thomas G. Nelson of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. While in law school, she was a Managing Editor for the Cornell Law Review. She was also a Judicial Extern to the Honorable R. Gary Klausner of the Central District of California.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Rykken was a Sarbanes-Oxley consultant, primarily in the energy and energy-trading industries.
