Mara and Frankie are inseperable, growing up in the 1950s, amid a bickering yet close-knit family. As they reach adolescence their friendship comes under threat in the heady atmosphere of the '60s. Years later, as Mara begins to confront Frankie's death, she is drawn back into the struggles of a generation betrayed by its own values.
