The breakout band Mals Totem hails from Brooklyn, NY. The members’ various concentrations, from metal to jazz, contribute to the genre-blending product which has been compared to Radiohead and the Mars Volta. Mals Totem is Dave Vives (vocals), Asher Kurtz (guitar), Ronnie Lanzilotta (bass) and Angelo Spampinato (drums). Since forming in 2013, the band has toured the Northeast US extensively, and can be found performing regularly in the NY/Boston area.
Mals Totem began to gain notoriety in the underground Boston music scene where they performed regularly in house shows in 2013. They released their debut self-titled EP in September of last year, a collaboration two years in the making between them and their producer Raul Chirinos. The EP includes their most well known single/video "Gargantuan", which was produced by Susan Rogers, (a Berklee professor) and George Massenburg. Their EP was called “One of the best initial releases I’ve heard since… well… ever” by Louder Than War, and was covered favorably in several online publications including Diffuser.fm and Allston Pudding. Since then, they were named the "Best New England Emerging Artist" by Deli Magazine. In the summer of 2014, Mals Totem began recording for their second EP, which will be released in 2015. [+]
