Mark Blake practices in all areas of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent litigation. His experience covers a range of technologies, including digital signal processing, wireless communications, MPEG video and audio compression, hard drives, computer memory and architecture, power management technology, thermoformed plastic computer cushions, print controllers, variable data printing, digital halftoning, software, vehicle engines, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Mark also has experience in licensing transactions, IP valuation, due diligence, copyright, trademark, and trade secret litigation.Mark has experience in direct examination of trial witnesses, managing cases, appellate work, initial case evaluation, development of case strategy, e-discovery, taking and defending depositions, licensing, claim construction hearings, motion practice, and working with expert witnesses. He has successfully prevailed on summary judgment in patent cases before district courts in the Eastern District of Texas, the Northern District of California, and the Southern District of California. Prior to joining Jones Day, Mark helped obtain a substantial trial jury verdict in a patent case that was affirmed on appeal at the Federal Circuit. He was also seconded to one of the world's largest computer manufactures to evaluate litigation risks, licensing demands, licensing targets, strategic business alliances, patent revenue generation, and dispute resolution.
