Matthew Aichele is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins. His practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on patent litigation. He has represented clients both offensively and defensively in matters before various federal district courts and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His experience also includes patent portfolio counseling and prosecution.
Prior to law school, Mr. Aichele was a senior reactor operator at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, where he also assisted researchers specializing in nuclear medicine, including Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. While at MIT, Mr. Aichele earned a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering, with a particular focus on the medical applications of nuclear engineering.
Mr. Aichele is the co-author of “Patents holders are not protected from US Government infringement by the Fifth Amendment” in the Oxford Journal’s Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (August 2006). He is admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
