Tazman “Mekell” Gillespie (born June 18, 1994), adopting his middle name Mekell as his stage name is an American artist, songwriter, dancer, and fashion designer.
Mekell started performing at the early age of 11. He acquired entertainment exposure throughout these years by performing at various venues including his high school, clubs, cafes, and festivals such as SpringFest 2011, opening for Rick Ross, Chris Brown, Miguel, and many more notable artists. He also traveled as a performer, and catching the attention of Polow Da don and Interscope Records at age 15, he was presumed the best rapper on the label by Polow Da Don’s management team. Due to negotiation differences, Mekell remains an independent artist.
Mekell’s interaction with Interscope motivates him to continue to perfect his craft and even explore other arenas such as fashion design. He is currently developing a clothing line and continues to explore and reinvent while creating new fashion trends.
Mekell’s main goals are to inspire others through his music. He has recently released his mixtape, Rap Cvrtel displaying his skill of crafting intellectual and witty lyrics while highlighting his creative versatility. Mekell’s talent is undeniable and is driven by his passion for music as well as inspiring others to be individuals and remain optimistic.
