Michael Thayer's practice centers on representing financial institutions in connection with structured product and derivatives disputes. Through various litigations, mediations, and prelitigation engagements, he has gained familiarity with the financial mechanics and legal issues relating to mortgage-backed securities (MBS), collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), collateralized loan obligations (CLOs), credit default swaps (CDS), and other structured and derivative products. He also has experience addressing the legal concerns of indenture trustees, loan originators, and monoline insurers, particularly in the field of mortgage-backed securities litigation. While his practice focuses primarily on dispute resolution, Michael also has represented various financial institutions in connection with regulatory, investigatory, and corporate matters.
