Morello chose two desirable locations to source fruit for his 2012 Central Coast Chardonnay – the Spanish Springs Vineyards of the Edna Valley and the Sweeney Canyon Vineyard of the Santa Rita Hills. The Edna Valley is known best for its premium Chardonnay and the Spanish Springs Vineyard has produced numerous award-winning wines over the years. The Sweeney Canyon Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in what is now known as the heralded Santa Rita Hills appellation, a region that is quickly climbing the ranks for growing some of the Central Coast’s best Burgundian varietals. Taking the premium fruit from these two sites, Morello crafted a crisp yet luxuriously rich Chardonnay that embraces the Central Coast terrior. Aromas of caramelized apple, candied lemon peel, hazelnut, quince and nutmeg mingle together and complement the palate with notes of light cream, brioche, almond paste and butterscotch.
