On the Bright Side is a band formed by Amanda Rain (17, vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Trevor Davis (17, Drums, Percussion, background vocals). They are from Hampton Roads Virginia and just completed their first CD at their studio, Mask Studios in Norfolk. The CD was produced and engineered by Sean and Kevin O'Keefe, who are also adding guitar and Bass. Matt Anthony with Engine Sound Studios in NYC mixed and mastered all the tracks. They recently added Sal Casey (19) on guitar.
Amanda is the main songwriter in the band. Her influences are varied, from Ryan Adams, the Civil Wars, and Regina Spektor, to Paramore and My Chemical Romance. Having said that, her style tends to be distinctly her own, with much of the songwriting being personal and the sentiment behind them seeming beyond her years. She has been described as having "an old soul". Trevor has played drums for 3 years and is the "rocker" of the group, making sure that OTBS have plenty of rocking edge to their songs. Sal, though only 17, would rather listen to Randy Rhoads shred on Diary of a Madman then listen to a lot of bad pop most kids his age are obsessed with. He will be instrumental in providing the perfect amount of edge to the songs. Kevin and Sean both come from years of the New York City hard rock scene (Barfly, Mind Riot, Kill City, Daddy Long Leg), having played every club and bar that scene had to offer for years. Kevin recorded for RCA records and spent time working at the Studio at Atlantic Records while Sean did a variety of production, studio, and stage work, most notably with Toy Specialist.
The band is currently doing a variety of shows around Hampton Roads while recording so keep checking the page for details. The CD was released October 16th and is available at most download sites.
