Paul D. Koethe

Paul Koethe has significant litigation experience in a broad range of complex product liability, commercial, and employment matters. With more than 20 years experience, Paul has represented R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in a wide variety of product liability actions, including class actions, medical monitoring suits, and claims brought under RICO and state consumer fraud statutes. He has coordinated complex litigation and appellate matters for Reynolds in state and federal cases throughout the country. Paul has experience in every phase of litigation and has been involved in more than a dozen trials against Reynolds.

Paul also has experience in pharmaceutical product liability actions. He has represented Abbott Laboratories in the nationwide defense of suits brought against the antibiotic drug Omniflox and in more than 400 individual cases alleging injuries from in utero exposure to the pregnancy drug DES. This representation involved appellate work before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the Ohio Supreme Court, resulting in a decision that Ohio does not recognize market share liability as a viable theory of recovery. In addition, Paul has been involved in numerous commercial and employment litigation matters for clients such as Eaton Corporation, Lincoln Electric, and TRW. [1]
