Peter Shaeffer is a member of the Litigation & Trial Department of Latham & Watkins. He has worked on a variety of litigation matters, in both federal and state courts, focusing on securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, and mergers and acquisitions litigation. He has also represented a now-defunct investment bank in responding to subpoenas issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission and US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Mr. Shaeffer has experience developing case strategies and handling various aspects of fact and expert discovery. He also has extensive drafting experience, including preparing complaints and other pleadings, drafting and responding to discovery requests, and engaging in motion practice (including summary judgment and preliminary injunctions).
Mr. Shaeffer actively participates in pro bono cases, including representing victims of domestic violence and an individual who applied for and received executive clemency from the Governor of Illinois. He is currently defending a mother involved in an abuse and neglect proceeding under the Juvenile Court Act of Illinois.
