PlumpJack 2006 Merlot Carneros, Oak Knoll & Howell Mtn

PlumpJack’s 2006 Napa Valley Merlot is a blend of three Merlot vineyards (in Carneros, Oak Knoll and Howell Mountain) and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon grown at a fourth vineyard site in Saint Helena. A small amount of Merlot has been produced at PlumpJack since the first vintage in 1997, and it rivals some of the top Merlots in the region. Winemaker Anthony Biagi says this wine “is everything I love about Merlot. Classic aromas of ripe plums, black cherry, ripe currants and clove jump from the glass. Rich, vibrant flavors of blackberry, soy, dark chocolate and vanilla coat the palate. The Cabernet portion gives this wine structure to age gracefully.” Wine Spectator rated the PlumpJack 2006 Merlot 91 Points: “Rich and opulent, offering lush black cherry and toasty mocha aromas, with complex, layered red currant, spice and minty espresso flavors that finish with burly but ripe tannins.” Try pairing with meat loaf, Italian-style sausages, and hearty pasta dishes.
