Born in Port Lavaca, Texas, his family relocated to Detroit while Joe was still young. This proved to be beneficial in the young musician’s life. This move allowed Joe to spend countless hours in the presence of such Motown greats as Kicker Womack, Ben Baber (Jazz organist) Ronnie Sandelin, Jimmy Sterling (former Chairman of the Board) drummer, Norma Jean Bell, Shields of Faith (Gospel Quartet) Roosevelt Leaks and a host of others. Joe turned that exposure to such great artists into motivation. The Mark May Band (long running opening act for the renowned Allman Brothers) was a driving force behind where he is today. Mark provided encouragement and coaching. With May, Joe learned to express what he felt through his instrument. [+]
