With a unique blend of Linkin Park-inspired ambience and modern electro meets indie hip-hop (a la Atmosphere), underground outfit Read & Return is out to win a spot on people’s playlists everywhere. They aren’t exactly pulling punches either.
The trio consists of Stephen Coleman (Content), Desmond Mallon (Pulstate), and Jordan Bennink (Joule). While production is handled primarily by Coleman and Mallon, Bennink and Coleman give the group its voice. Neither former SECTR24 member Coleman or Mallon are strangers to the production world, as Coleman scored an international dance hit with “Say Goodbye” on Armada in 2010 while Irish trance music producer Mallon consistently produces tracks that are touted by the likes of Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto through Armada and Infrasonic.
With additional production from Ghostlab Production Team Ross Lara (Paul Oakenfold, Britney Spears, Tegan and Sara, Fiestar) and TC Spitfire (Usher, B.o.B., Madonna), as well as contributions from up-and-comer Michael Casings (Casal), Read & Return’s third album “Talksick” is shaping up to be quite the effort.
Between the lyrical depths of their writing, the pulsing beat of the production, and a catchiness that’s a rarity within the genre, they just might win that spot. [+]
