Rich and luscious Chardonnay fans have met their match with this appreciative interpretation of an Old World style wine from Riverbench Winery. This delightful 2006 Reserve Chardonnay is barrel aged and offers distinct touches of crème brulee, while vanilla and nutmeg flirt with the senses. A hint of honey and lemon meringue provide a lingering finish that’s not quite tart, not quite sweet. This Gold Medal Special Selection Chardonnay was produced in such limited quantity that Riverbench Winery was unable to submit it for review, but with such a pristine reputation for rich, Burgundian styled Chardonnays, this wine easily speaks for itself. Winemaker Chuck Ortman leaves his distinguished mark on this special bottling, displaying the distinctive honeyed notes and exceptionally well balanced flavors this Santa Maria Valley site has become admired for. Try pairing the Riverbench 2006 Reserve Chardonnay with baked halibut, creamy crab soup, and sautéed shrimp to take it to another level. [+]
