Sara Lumbreras is an assistant researcher at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid, Spain), and an assistant professor at the ICAI school of engineering. Her main area of work is long-term power transmission expansion planning for large systems. She is part of the e-Highway team, a project launched by the European Commission to plan the future 2050 EU transmission grid. She is also working on the optimization of the electrical design of large offshore wind farms, a problematic very relevant to renewable energy integration.
Before committing to her research and teaching, Sara spent five years in Investment Banking with JPMorgan in London, particularly dedicated to designing and executing structures and index products on FX and commodity derivatives. She is specialized in Optimization Theory and applications, and is focused on applying the powerful methods of Operations Research to complex problems of a practical nature, especially with regards to energy infrastructure and sustainability issues.
