Sarah M. Ray
Sarah Ray is a partner in the San Francisco office of Latham & Watkins, and is a member of the firm’s Global Antitrust & Competition Practice. She is Co-chair of the firm’s Women Enriching Business (WEB) Committee, whose mission is to promote women through trailblazing initiatives focused on women’s professional development, mentoring and networking.
Ms. Ray’s practice focuses on complex civil antitrust cases, government investigations and counseling and other competition-related commercial cases. She has also developed particular expertise in class action litigation and claims of unfair competition under California law.
Although Ms. Ray represents clients across a broad range of industries, she has significant experience representing technology, internet and media companies. This work includes defending against allegations of monopolization and attempted monopolization, price-fixing, tying, refusal to deal and unfair competition. She has also handled matters for clients relating to patent misuse, patent pools and other standard setting organizations.
Ms. Ray also has an active export controls practice focusing on investigations, enforcement proceedings and counseling clients regarding compliance with OFAC regulations and other US sanctions laws. She has experience in international dispute resolution, successfully trying a three-week arbitration in which she prepared fact and expert witnesses for trial, cross-examined plaintiff's expert and conducted the direct examination of the client-defendant's expert during trial.
Ms. Ray clerked for the Honorable Vaughn R. Walker, Chief Judge of the Northern District of California and the Honorable Samuel Conti, Senior District Judge of the Northern District of California.
