Saswat Misra is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the Litigation & Trial Department. His practice focuses on Intellectual Property (IP) issues, including patent litigation and technology transactions.
Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Misra worked for five years as a Patent Agent and Associate in the IP rights management group of a large global law firm while also obtaining his law degree. Mr. Misra has significant experience managing domestic and foreign patent prosecution, and he has personally prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications. Mr. Misra has further experience representing clients in post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including ex parte reexaminations and inter partes review (IPR) proceedings.
Previously, Mr. Misra spent two years at a technology and licensing company, where provided technical and legal analysis to support a worldwide litigation and licensing campaign involving over 100 standard-essential telecommunications patents. He has significant experience in 3GPP technology, including LTE (4G), UMTS (3G) and GSM (2G) wireless technology.
Mr. Misra started his career as a Research Scientist at the United States Army Research Laboratory (ARL), where he worked for seven years while attaining his doctorate degree. Mr. Misra’s academic worked spanned several areas in telecommunications and networks, including diversity codes for multiantenna wireless systems, pilot placement in cellular systems, and dynamic spectrum access techniques for Software Defined Radio. He has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles on these and other topics, and he has presented his work at leading technical conferences. He is an inventor of several patents on wireless cellular technology.
