September Hargrove relocated to New Orleans, LA in summer 2011 after graduating from Harvard University with her master’s degree in public policy and urban planning. As the Policy and Programs Manager for the City of New Orleans, September directly staffs the Mayor’s Advisor on Economic Development to develop and streamline policies, programs and initiatives such as the City’s Small Business Assistance Fund that promote economic growth and inclusion. In her role with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, September manages a portfolio of special projects that span from re-entry initiatives as part of the Mayor’s NOLA for LIFE comprehensive murder reduction strategy to coordinating the City’s Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign. Prior to graduate school, September worked in California state government as a Senate Fellow and Gubernatorial Appointee in the Schwarzenegger Administration advocating for legislation that addressed self-sufficiency and economic equity for some of the state’s most vulnerable populations. Outside of the office, September was actively involved in several community organizations serving as an executive board member for the Sacramento County Children’s Coalition, Self-Sufficiency Council Member for the United Way California Capitol Region, and volunteer with the California Youth Connection, an organization that focuses on improving the foster care system. Since moving to New Orleans, September has remained committed to being civically engaged with a continued focus on economic inclusion and helping people achieve self-sufficiency. In summer 2012, September joined the administrative team of the College Admissions Project (CAP) through the Young Leadership Council and was selected to serve on the NexGen Council of GNO, Inc. In addition to her interest in social policy, September has always been fascinated with politics and is a spring 2013 graduate of the Institute of Politics at Loyola University and alumni of the From Harvard Square to the Oval Office program at Harvard University. September received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and is a Sacramento, CA native. September resides in Uptown New Orleans and enjoys spending her time exploring with city, bargain shopping and traveling and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. [+]
