Dr. Sheila Greeve Davaney is a Visiting Senior Fellow at American Progress. She is also currently a distinguished visiting professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York. From 2007 to 2011 Davaney was a program officer at the Ford Foundation, leading the Religion in the Public Sphere Initiative. Prior to moving to the Ford Foundation, she was the Harvey H. Potthoff professor of theology at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. She is the author or editor of 11 volumes and more than 40 articles. Among her books are Historicism: The Once and Future Challenge to Theology (Fortress Press, 2006) and Pragmatic Historicism: A Theology for the Twenty-first Century (SUNY, 2000). Davaney’s previous scholarly work has focused on feminist thought, pragmatism and historicism, and on religion’s public role in a diverse society. At American Progress, Davaney is working with the Faith and Progressive Policy team, the Progressive Studies team, and the American Values and New Communities team.
