is the founder of Shugeru Ban Architects in Tokyo, Japan, and of the non-governmental organisation VAN (Voluntary Architects Network). He is famous for his dynamic paper buildings and unique structural solutions. Ban was the 2005 winner of the fortieth annual Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture from the University of Virginia. He has been featured in Time magazine as a twenty-first century design innovator. Ban has been a visiting professor at Columbia University and Keio University. Ban was formerly a consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. [+]
