Southern Envy

Contemporary poetic lyrics delivered by a haunting male voice backed by tight drum beats, thick bass lines and a Fender Strat. This 3 piece blends their affinity for rock, r&b, blues and funk into a cohesive and entertaining performance; their live show is a must see.

Southern Envy's name may invoke thoughts of Texas Blues and Southern Rock yet their sound stretches far beyond the genre as well as the state line. They each bring their own style and influence to the group making for a unique and original sound.

Formed as a solo project in 2009 by Omar Reyna while working as a recording engineer in Los Angeles, he utilized the studio to write and record his songs during down time. Omar's desire to preform live grew, so he moved back to his home state of Texas and settled in south Austin, where his brother Andres was playing drums in a band of his own. It wasn't long before the two brothers, whom had never preformed together, found a musical connection and decided to concentrate on playing live.

Andres lays the foundation for Southern Envy with his tight drum work. After leading his high school band to the Texas State finals as head of the drum line, he moved to Austin to make music. Andres brings a current flavor to the back beat and draws upon influences such as Michael Jackson, Daft Punk and Dave Weckl. When asked what he would be doing if not keeping time for Southern Envy, he quickly states that he would be involved with Drum Corps International and continue producing and creating urban/pop compositions for worthy MCs.

Rounding out the trio is Sam Quatllebaum and as Sam puts it "...I'm from The Mother, and traveled spacetime to get here. A mutual human friend connected the music of Southern Envy to myself. Now I provide some low-end frequencies to whatever Being tunes in." and provide low end he has. Sam has been playing music since before he arrived on this planet; his body is merely the vessel for his time traveling musical soul. A well accomplished musician in his own right, Sam plays a variety of instruments and lays down some sweet bass lines.

The three collaborate on lyrics, melodies, song arrangement, composition, engineering and production, pooling all their talents to create one potent remedy for your fresh music fix. They take the stage like it is their last time... every time.

The band is currently booking shows through out Texas. [+]
