Sparkle L. Sooknanan

Sparkle Sooknanan focuses on appellate advocacy, critical motions practice, and legal strategy. Since joining Jones Day in 2014, she has drafted dispositive motions and appellate briefs in several circuits, argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits, cross-examined witnesses and argued evidentiary disputes before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and advised clients on matters involving a host of substantive areas.

Before joining Jones Day, Sparkle served as a judicial clerk on the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She also served in the U.S. Department of Justice, where she represented the government in federal courts nationwide. While at the DOJ she briefed a number of appeals, presented oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, prepared recommendations to the solicitor general regarding whether to seek further review of decisions adverse to the government, and prepared a draft amicus brief on behalf of the United States in a Supreme Court case.
