In 1994, he led the Chargers through an impressive series of victories through the NFL Playoffs that started with the Chargers defeating the Miami Dolphins (led by Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino) 22-21 in the Divisional playoffs, and was followed by what would become one of pro football's all-time great upsets as the Chargers succeeded in holding off a last-minute rally by the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the AFC championship 17-13 at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium.
