singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer
Steve Riggs blends an acoustic alternative mix of folk and rock music with a distinctive style that almost hearkens back to old style country, almost. His first album, “Some Other Life”, is a great introduction for him into the music scene and a great addition to the current trends influenced by Indy Folk, Bluegrass, and Americana roots.
Steve recently donated a special recording of “The Longest Day” to the Louisville Kentucky, not-for-profit record label Apartment Four for their second annual compilation album. He also will perform at the benefit show for the album release at Diamond Pub Concert Hall in Louisville Kentucky on July 8, 2013. 100% of the proceeds for the album and show will be donated to Seedleaf.org, a community garden organization based in Lexington, Kentucky.
His distinctive playing style has been influenced by his eclectic and diverse, and sometimes fickle instrument choices. The thumping bass rhythms are thanks to years as a bass guitarist playing rock. The strumming rhythms are due to even more years experimenting with classical and flamenco guitar. The structure and discipline, and simplicity of the arrangements can be traced back to an equal amount of time studying music theory and playing trumpet. All of these influences mixed with lyrics about real life and a natural voice create a sound not quite like any other.
