Sylvia Tonova

Sylvia Tonova has represented investors and states in investment treaty and commercial arbitrations for over a decade. Her experience includes arbitrations conducted under the rules of ICSID and the ICSID Additional Facility, UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, and VIAC. She is also a member of the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators.

Sylvia has extensive experience with investments in the CIS and Eastern Europe and advises on arbitration clauses and structuring investments to take advantage of investment treaties. She currently represents a Canadian mining company and a Canadian investor in an UNCITRAL arbitration against Kazakhstan under the USSR-Canada BIT; four claimants in an ICSID arbitration against Uzbekistan brought under the Energy Charter Treaty and the Turkey-Uzbekistan BIT; and 12 claimants in another ICSID arbitration against Uzbekistan.
