From Radiohead to Redman and everything in between, the various degree’s and complexities of music are what have created Tay Black. Born and raised in Wilson, NC in the same year Whodini, Run D.M.C., LL Cool J and Prince all dropped ground breaking albums, Tay Black was brought up with music all around him.
His first taste of the pen and pad came as a freshman in High School. It was at this point that Tay Black saw the potential in his creative talents and knew that if he wanted to one day pursue a career, he would have to work hard at it now. Throughout High School and College, Tay Black worked diligently at his craft.
With the help and support of Mars, King James, EQ(Formally Black History), Lxlu, Shorttay, Joe Logic and Big Ziek to name a few, Tay Black’s talents have now grown to the level where he feels he is able to show the world what he sees through his music.
While working on The Beginning in 2007 and Skull Sessions in 2008 with his fellow group members of Peoples, Tay Black was still constantly working on solo projects, collabs and other musical endeavors that would serve as another step forward musically. This brings us to the current date and the recent release of Loop Dreams, a project comprised of instrumentals/beat loops and dope rhymes. On the solo front, Tattered Dreams only give a glimpse of what Tay Black is able to do with a pen, a pad, and a dope beat. With his collaboration with veteran Royce da 5’9, Tay Black had one thought on his mind, “In order to be one of the greatest, you have to study under them…”.
Tay Black recently had the opportunity to work on a soundtrack to a book entitled Koontown Killing Kaper, a Hip Hop satire that is often prefaced as a mix between Family Guy and The Boondocks. The project was executive produced by Triple Threat, CEO of Brave New Breed. Triple and Tay also have a number of other projects, shows and events in the works as well.
Upcoming projects include a collaboration album with artist from across the country and world. Prepare yourself for music from the eyes, heart, and mind of a man that is ready to prove himself and establish his place in Hip Hop history. [+]
