The Paper Jets are a three-piece indie-rock/powerpop band based in Central New Jersey and featuring Brian E. on vocals and guitar, Scottie Maloney on bass, and Frank Lettieri on drums and vocals. Heavily influenced by Cheap Trick, Big Star, Ben Folds, Spoon, and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, the band is preparing to release their follow-up to We Are All Strange Friends, an EP entitled Almost Nine.
Founded in 2005 under the moniker The Invisible Solid, The Paper Jets grew out of a senior thesis project undertaken by Brian and Frank, who were both students at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. The goal was to record a full album using only “consumer” equipment, and five of the songs from these sessions can be heard on the band’s odds-and-sods collection, Sorta Bored, available on iTunes and Spotify. In 2008, Scottie joined the band, and the group adopted their current name after a brainstorming session that resulted in rejected titles such as The Sly Figurines, The Effuse, At the Laundromat, Peter Buck’s Air Rage, and Ballscraper.
In 2009, the band released their debut mini-LP, Face Forward, available on iTunes and Spotify. They followed that release in 2011 with the live concert DVD Bored in Town, which was packaged with Sorta Bored. The standalone single “Cooking Up an Accident” was issued in 2012 and is also featured on We Are All Strange Friends, which was released in 2014. The band's next release, EP Almost Nine, will be out Spring 2015. The single, "Elizabeth Distressed," is available now on iTunes and Spotify. [+]
