Torrey Mercer is an award-winning singer/songwriter and performer from California that brings a one-of-a-kind charisma to the stage and a unique experience to her fans through her pop fusion of soul and rock genres. With her early beginnings in musical theater, Torrey was trained vocally in a number of different styles such as pop, jazz, rock, blues, and Broadway, including classical, which she began at the age of 9. It was this upbringing that influenced her to embrace different sounds and incorporate them in the arrangement you hear in her music today.
Blending the sounds of synth pop, light rock, and elements of blues and soul, Torrey’s musicality has a pull that impacts it’s listeners with sheer power. And with her lyrics, she provides thought-provoking insight and comfort to topics surrounding self-esteem, the media, body image, and relationships.
Torrey first entered the music scene with original content at the age of 17 – writing and releasing a young pop music sound that would later mature with her life experience and vocal seasoning. Her single "Looking Glass" was released in 2012, winning her the Indie Music Channel Award for ‘Best Pop Song’ in 2013, and was nominated for numerous other awards, in addition to being featured on the popular YouTube series, "The Most Popular Girls in School". In 2014, Torrey released two singles, "I Believe in Me", a soulful and uplifting anthem about self-esteem and "Lies & Lipstick", which speaks on failed friendship. In 2014, she was also named "Best Teen Artist" and "Inspirational Artist of the Year" by the Artists in Music Awards. And in early 2015, she was named "Peacemaker of the Year" by the Encinitas Rotary Club out of San Diego, California, for the humanitarian work she has always paired with her music, later releasing "Be Your Own Hero".
Some of her more notable performances include singing the National Anthem for the San Diego NFL Chargers in an arena of over 60,000 people, touring nationally across the East and West coasts to perform and speak to thousands of kids through the service organization she founded in 2013, The Pledge Tour, and also performing at world-renown venues, such as LA’s Whisky-A-Go-Go, San Diego’s and Los Angeles’, House of Blues, and Nashville's Bluebird Café, to name a few.
Torrey has already affected the lives of thousands of young adults through her philanthropic work with The Pledge Tour – speaking on bullying prevention, kindness, embracing diversity, giving back, and pursuing successful career paths. It is her greatest goal by engaging in this work to leave a positive impact on the world.
In addition to running her organization, Torrey recently finished recording her award-winning debut EP, "Exhale", which was digitally released on February 5th, 2016, with a successful San Diego-based release party to follow with over 90 attendees. "Exhale" received the title of "Best Pop EP" from The Akademia Music Awards in November 2015, as selected by a panel of senior executives from prominent record labels such as Columbia Records, Virgin Records, Warner Brother Records, and others. Her leading single off the record, "Miles" has received digital radio hits in numerous regions, being spun over 1,000 times by request in Decemeber 2015 alone. It is Torrey's ultimate goal to be signed by a major record label, and to have her music played on major FM stations nation wide. 2016 has already begun strong for her, and she only plans to continue making strides in this direction.
