Mr. Troyen A. Brennan, Troy, MD, M.P.H. has been an Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of CVS Caremark Corporation and CVS Pharmacy, Inc., since November 2008. Mr. Brennan is responsible for CVS Caremark Corporation's MinuteClinic, Accordant Health Care, clinical and medical affairs, and health care strategy. He served as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Aetna Inc. from February 21, 2006 to November 2008. He was responsible for clinical operations, national quality management, disease management and other programs. He directs Aetna's National Quality Management activities and was responsible for Aetna's major public health initiatives, which include racial and ethnic equality, genomics, next generation consumer-driven health care, the Aetna Compassionate CareSM Program and integrated depression management. He provided oversight for the development of Aetna's clinical policies, as well as Aetna's full range of clinical operations, disease management programs and patient management services. Dr. Brennan's career with Brigham and Women's Hospital, began in 1987. Mr. Brennan served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Brigham and Women's Physician Hospital Organization from 1997 to 2006 and from 2000 to 2006, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization. He was responsible for managed care contract negotiations, designing both primary care and specialty medical management and incentive programs, and overseeing the merger of seven specialty physician foundations and eight hospital departments into a single physician organization. Mr. Brennan served as Director of quality measurement and improvement at Brigham and Women's Hospital since 1992. Mr. Brennan also served as a Practicing Internist at Brigham and Women's Hospital until 2006. In his academic work, he has served as professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School since 1995 and professor of law and public health at Harvard School of Public Health since 1992. Mr. Brennan serves as Director of Bridges to Excellence and Generation Health, Inc. Since 1987, he has published 230 peer-reviewed papers and four books. He is also a frequent presenter on health care policy, ethics and law. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Brennan received his MD and M.P.H. degrees from Yale Medical School, his J.D. degree from Yale Law School, and his M.A. degree from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
