Tscharke Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Gold 2011

Barossa Gold is produced by Damien Tscharke, a sixth generation viticulturist who grew up in the Barossa Valley among the vineyards in Seppeltsfield and Marananga. The family’s first winemaker, his father and grandfather grew grapes as part of a mixed farming enterprise, selling their grapes to local winemakers. Damien pioneered the use of alternative grape varieties - Tempranillo, Montepulciano, Graciano, Zinfandel and Savagnin - that are best suited to the terroir of Barossa’s sub-appellations Seppeltsfield and Marananga. The wines are handcrafted from fruit grown in the Marananga and Greenock Creek estate vineyards planted on gravelly sand over red brown earth. Additional fruit is sourced from premium vineyards in the valley. Damien’s winemaking approach is traditional, with minimal handling, basket pressing, open-top fermentation, and aging in French oak with no fining or filtration. These wines reveal layers of flavor, depth, richness and complexity. [+]
