In 1983 after becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of practice profitability Dr. West sought guidance from practitioners successful in attracting new patients and increasing practice revenue. It’s interesting that these practitioners were not optometrists but rather dentists. Because dentistry has traditionally developed and adopted patient and practice management strategies more advanced than in optometry, Dr. West used this more proactive approach as his foundation for practice development. Since 1985 Dr. West has taught leadership, management and communication techniques that he has both learned and developed to practitioners and their staff in an effort to enhance the performance of individual practices.
