Whitney Way Thore (born April 14, 1984) is an American television personality best known for her appearances on the television show My Big Fat Fabulous Life, which the TLC network transmits. As a fat acceptance movement activist, Thore has also achieved national recognition for her online campaign for positive body image, No Body Shame.

Whitney Way Thore was born on April 14, 1984 in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Glenn and Barbara Thore. She has an older brother, Hunter, who resides in New York City.

Thore was accepted into the theatre summer enrichment program at the Governor's School of North Carolina at Meredith College in 2000.[6] After graduating from Page High School in 2002, Thore enrolled at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina majoring in theatre.[7]

After she graduated from college, Thore relocated to South Korea to teach English to schoolchildren. When Thore returned to the U.S., she became the on-air producer of Jared & Katie in the Morning on 107.5 KZL, a major radio station in Greensboro.[8]

On February 27, 2014, Jared and Katie in the Morning created a dance video called "A Fat Girl Dancing" on 107.5 KZL'S YouTube channel. Soon, the video went viral, allowing Thore to promote her message of body acceptance and positive body image, and as a direct result, Thore was featured on numerous media outlets such as ABC News, NBC's Today Show, and The Huffington Post.[9]

In early January 2015, TLC aired My Big Fat Fabulous Life, which followed the chronicles of Thore's life, and her mission to lose weight, but not really. The first season aired with ten episodes, and TLC premiered the second season in September 2015.[10]

To keep her message of "no body shaming" growing, Whitney has her own website, and blog where she relates to others and continues to connect with other fat acceptance activists.[11]

Thore released her own memoir called "I Do It With The Lights On" on May 31, 2016.[12]
