William D. Coglianese

Bill Coglianese litigates complex civil and criminal cases at all levels of the federal judiciary, with a focus on briefing and strategic analysis. He has helped to brief a number of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, at both the certiorari and merits stages.

Currently, Bill is representing a group of California public school teachers in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, a First Amendment challenge to the requirement that teachers pay union fees even if they decline to join the union. He assisted in successfully petitioning for certiorari, and the case will be argued during the U.S. Supreme Court's 2015-2016 term. He also has assisted clients in defending against class actions and a range of civil claims and in developing challenges to administrative action. [1]
